1. Annealing
Slowly heat the steel to 850-900°C and hold for 2-4 hours. Allow the furnace to cool gradually to below 600°C, then air cool to room temperature.
2. Hardening (Quenching)
Preheat in stages:
First to 450-500°C
Then to 850-900°C
Finally, heat to the austenitizing temperature of 1190-1210°C, holding for an appropriate time depending on the section size.
Quench rapidly in oil, salt bath, or vacuum gas to obtain optimum hardness and a fine, uniform microstructure.
3. Tempering
Temper immediately after quenching to reduce internal stresses and improve toughness.
Recommended tempering temperature: 540-600°C
For optimal performance, double or triple tempering is recommended.
After tempering, typical hardness reaches 65-67 HRC, depending on section size and heat treatment parameters.
