1. Annealing
Heat the material slowly to 850-900°C, hold for 2-4 hours, then furnace cool to below 600°C, followed by air cooling.
This process achieves an annealed hardness of ≤ 255 HB, ensuring good machinability before final heat treatment.
2. Hardening (Quenching)
Preheat in two steps:
First to 450-500°C
Then to 850-900°C
Finally, heat to the austenitizing temperature of 1020-1120°C, hold for an appropriate time (depending on section size), then quench in oil, salt bath, or gas (vacuum) for best results.
3. Tempering
Temper immediately after quenching to reduce internal stress and enhance toughness.
Recommended tempering temperature: 520-550°C
Double or triple tempering is advised for optimal performance.
After tempering, the hardness can reach 57-64 HRC, depending on exact conditions.
