Product Description

F865 Spray Forming Powder HSS Tool Steel

F865 Spray Forming Powder Metallurgy High-Speed Steel is a high-performance tool steel that offers an excellent balance of toughness and wear resistance. Similar to F835, F865 is engineered with a stronger focus on impact resistance and durability under severe working conditions. Produced using advanced spray forming powder metallurgy technology, it features a fine, uniform microstructure and evenly distributed carbides. This ensures stable hardness, enhanced toughness, and long tool life. F865 is well-suited for demanding applications such as heavy-duty cutting tools, stamping dies, and cold work tooling where both strength and wear resistance are critical.

Heat Treatment Process for F865 Spray Forming Powder Metallurgy HSS Tool Steel

1. Annealing
Procedure: Slowly heat the steel to 850-900°C and hold for 2-4 hours. Then allow the furnace to cool below 600°C, followed by air cooling.
Result: Achieves an annealed hardness of ≤ 269 HB, ensuring excellent machinability prior to hardening.

2. Hardening (Quenching)
Preheating Stages:

  • First, preheat to 450-500°C.

  • Then heat to 850-900°C.

  • Finally, heat to the austenitizing temperature of 1170-1205°C, holding based on cross-sectional size.

Quenching: Rapid quenching in oil, salt bath, or vacuum gas is recommended to obtain a fine, uniform microstructure.
Result: This process allows F865 to reach optimal hardness and wear resistance while maintaining toughness.

3. Tempering
Procedure: Temper the steel immediately after quenching to relieve internal stresses and improve both toughness and dimensional stability.
Tempering Temperature: 550-570°C
Recommended Process: For best performance, double or triple tempering is recommended.
Result: After tempering, hardness reaches 64-67 HRC, depending on section size and precise heat treatment control.

F865's heat treatment process is designed to optimize both toughness and wear resistance, making it ideal for heavy-duty and high-performance tooling applications.
