ESR M2 Cobalt High Speed Tool Steel 

ESR M2 Cobalt Steel is a premium grade high-speed steel alloy that enhances the red hardness of M2 by increasing its cobalt (Co) content. Known for its exceptional wear resistance, toughness, and high-temperature performance, ESR M2 Cobalt is produced using Electro-Slag Remelting (ESR) technology. This process ensures excellent purity, a uniform microstructure, and superior mechanical properties.

The increased cobalt content in M2 enhances its performance at high temperatures, making it particularly suitable for tools that require excellent wear resistance under extreme conditions. This makes ESR M2 Cobalt an ideal choice for cutting, drilling, milling, and punching applications that demand high-speed operations and superior heat resistance.

ESR M2 Cobalt high-speed steel is commonly used in industrial cutting tools, drill bits, end mills, punches, dies, and precision components. Additionally, it is specially designed for planer knives requiring high wear resistance. Custom sizes, shapes, and surface finishes are available to meet specific requirements.

Heat Treatment for ESR M2 / 1.3343 High Speed Tool Steel

Annealing:

Heat to 850-900°C, hold for a sufficient time, then cool slowly in the furnace to approximately 500°C, followed by air cooling.
Annealed Hardness: ≤ 255 HB.

Hardening:

Preheat in two stages at 600-850°C, then heat rapidly to the hardening temperature of 1200-1220°C. Hold at the hardening temperature until fully heated through.
Quench in oil or salt bath at 540-595°C or allow air cooling.
Hardening Temperature: 1200-1220°C.

Tempering:

Tempering should be done immediately after hardening. The recommended tempering temperature is 550°C. It is advised to temper twice or thrice to achieve optimum hardness and toughness.
Final Hardness after Tempering: 63-67 HRC.
