ESR M2 Cobalt Steel is a premium grade high-speed steel alloy that enhances the red hardness of M2 by increasing its cobalt (Co) content. ESR M2 Cobalt high-speed steel is commonly used in industrial cutting tools, drill bits, end mills, punches, dies, and precision components. Heat to 850-900°C, hold for a sufficient time, then cool slowly in the furnace to approximately 500°C, followed by air cooling.
Annealed Hardness: ≤ 255 HB.
Preheat in two stages at 600-850°C, then heat rapidly to the hardening temperature of 1200-1220°C. Hold at the hardening temperature until fully heated through.
Quench in oil or salt bath at 540-595°C or allow air cooling.
Hardening Temperature: 1200-1220°C.
Tempering should be done immediately after hardening. The recommended tempering temperature is 550°C. It is advised to temper twice or thrice to achieve optimum hardness and toughness.
Final Hardness after Tempering: 63-67 HRC.
