Heat Treatment Process for D2 Spray Forming Powder Metallurgy HSS

1. Annealing
Slowly heat the steel to 850-900°C and hold for 2-4 hours. Then furnace is cooled to below 600°C, followed by air cooling.
This process achieves an annealed hardness of about 255 HB, ensuring good machinability prior to hardening.

2. Hardening (Quenching)
Heat to 1010-1030°C and hold for a suitable time depending on the section size.
Quench rapidly in oil, salt bath, or gas (vacuum) to obtain optimal hardness and a refined microstructure.

3. Tempering
Temper immediately after quenching to relieve internal stresses and enhance toughness.
The recommended tempering temperature range is 180-500°C.
Multiple tempering cycles (two or three times) are recommended for best performance.
After tempering, hardness typically ranges from 57 to 62 HRC, depending on exact parameters.
