ASTM T5 Tool Steel | 1.3265 | S18-1-2-10 | SKH4 - Heat Treatment

Annealing

  • Heat to: 850°C (220°C per hour)

  • Hold for: 1 hour per inch of thickness (min 2 hours)

  • Cool: Slowly in furnace or air

  • Hardness: Max 255 HB

Stress Relieving

  • Heat to: 600-650°C

  • Hold for: 1 hour

  • Cool: Air cool

  • Purpose: Remove machining stresses and reduce distortion.

Hardening

  • Preheat: 820-870°C

  • Heat to: 1250°C

  • Quench: In warm oil, then air cool

Tempering

  • Temperature: 550-590°C

  • Purpose: Temper to achieve the desired hardness.

This simplified heat treatment process ensures ASTM T5 Tool Steel achieves optimal hardness, toughness, and wear resistance.
